Monument to the International Community
This monument represents our ‘gratitude’ to the International Community for everything it has done for BiH. Gratitude, embodied in the shape of a monument would finally show that we are still ready to collaborate with the International Community following the principles that had been set by the Lisbon negotiations and continued by a three-and-a-half year war and concluded by the Dayton Peace Accords. During the war, Bosnia and Herzegovina received humanitarian aid from many countries. Some of them have just emptied their stocks of goods whose validity had long been expired; some of them were sincerely helping us as true friends should do. “Ikar” was a notorious meat-can we received as humanitarian aid whose content, period of validity, origin and everything that should be relevant for that type of food has never been established. We knew that we had nothing better to eat and that there was no choice possible for us. Political aid we have received from the West is the same as the one we received in food: mysterious in content and with unknown ingredients, by mysterious manufacturer and with an undetermined period of validity.
Project received for the competition for new monument/artwork in public space in the category “Monument form – pedestal”.
