Traces of Homeland

In realising my ideas I am interested between autobiographical memories and propaganda forms within political dictatorships (1982 – 1999 – 2013). By using huge photographs, partially from my family’s archive, I frame a space as an installation, which evoke experiences from public space and experiences of individuals moving through them, and they question the role of the private and the public. The background of my work is inpired by the country’s history, where towns and cultural monuments are either being adapted to the new regime, or are being totally destroyed, because they are unwanted. Growing up in an environment where the historical facts have been manipulated, the criminals suddenly become heroes, or they are being replaced by newly created ones, I have not become an activist, but rather an artist, who questions political notions of force, freedom and belonging. In that context I deal with the subject of time and identity, and I question my own memories, stolen from me when I was a child.
